Eric Quoted on “Do Not Track” In MD Daily Record

I was recently quoted in the Maryland Daily Record (subscription required) on the Federal Trade Commission’s proposed “Do Not Track” list, which would, in some form, limit tracking of a user’s online behavior by advertisers. While some advertisers argue that the proposed limitations would be a significant burden, I note that the folks that would choose to be on the “Do Not Track” list would also be the people least likely to respond to heavily targeted advertisements.

The article also has a nice discussion of the benefits and limitations of advertisers’ self regulation, and the challenges created by non-standardized data and practices in making self-regulation a reality.
